Jaley was born in Shawnee, OK and moved to Aztec, NM when she was just three years old with her family to rejoin her extended family. She attended a private school in Farmington, NM through her seventh-grade year and then transitioned to her first year of public school at Koogler Middle School. After graduating from Aztec High School, she moved to Albuquerque to attend the University of New Mexico. Jaley is a junior, currently pursuing a double major in Strategic Communications and Criminology. She will graduate in May 2021 and hopes to work in public relations.
I aspire to be like my mother. Here’s why:
My mother is the most caring and selfless person I know. She has experienced set backs that most people would let define them, but not her. My mom has used her setbacks to become the woman she is today. She is the most amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She always supports any endeavor that I am passionate about and is always there to pick me up when I feel defeated. I can only hope to be half the person that she is.
Why I’m excited to intern at NewMexicoKidsCAN:
I’ve always known that I wanted to do work that had a greater purpose. I want to make a difference in something that matters. Working to improve New Mexico’s education system will impact so many kids. I am so excited to be able to work for NewMexicoKidsCAN and be able to create waves in the public education system.
My connection to public schools:
Although I was not a part of the public education system until eighth grade, I know that in the time that I did spend in New Mexico’s public schools were some of the best. I want to make the public education system the best it can be for my nieces, nephews, and cousins.
What I’m bad at:
I am bad about taking on too much. I want to be able to do everything for everyone even when it spreads me too thin. My family and friends are the most important people in my life and I would go to the end of the earth to help them. A lot of times when I do this, I become overwhelmed and stressed.
This image represents why I work at NewMexicoKidsCAN:
My parents worked so hard for me to be able to have everything I need to reach my potential before graduation. I want all kids that are part of the public education system to have the same resources I did so that they too can reach their full potential.
