2022 Policy Priorities

The Future of K-12 Education in New Mexico

New Mexico students and families have endured tremendous challenges over the last two years. While the gravity of the impact on our students is unknown, NewMexicoKidsCAN remains steadfastly focused on ensuring that our state and district officials use the resources and tools available–including the $1 billion in federal funds–to understand where our students are academically and provide the learning experiences necessary to get our students back on track. Parents and families have a right to know how their students and the schools they attend are performing, as well as a dollar-by-dollar account of how federal funding is being spent to support their students. New Mexico can rise above these challenges and deliver an excellent education for every New Mexico child, but it will require ensuring that every family has the right to select the education that’s right for them. Our 2022 policy priorities reflect the urgency of this moment and our collective belief in the potential of our students.
