ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Today, Founder and Executive Director Amanda Aragon announced the launch of NewMexicoKidsCAN: The New Mexico Campaign for Achievement Now, a locally led grassroots education advocacy nonprofit organization that will advocate for an equitable, high-quality education for all New Mexico students.
NewMexicoKidsCAN will focus on policy-making in support of its mission to provide every child with access to a quality education, regardless of their socioeconomic background. Key goals in its inaugural year will include improving teacher preparation programs, creating an alternate pathway for educators to obtain a Level III license, and ensuring every child has access to a high quality teacher.
“At NewMexicoKidsCAN, we believe education changes lives, and we will work to ensure that every child receives an education that prepares them to fulfill their potential,” Aragon said. “Our goal is for this to be a bipartisan effort that everyone in the community can embrace.”
The official launch coincides with a reception this evening in Santa Fe. The event will host key legislators, business leaders, and community advocates who will be central to the work of NewMexicoKidsCAN. Among the speakers anticipated to address the campaign will be Secretary-Designate Christopher Ruszkowski.
A chief focus of the launch of NewMexicoKidsCAN is the release of the State of Education Report 2018. The comprehensive document is the first of its kind in New Mexico, and will provide citizens across New Mexico with a comprehensive and easy-to-understand summary of the current state of New Mexico’s education system.
