In the wee hours of the morning, our literacy bill (HB 481), sponsored by Minority Leader Ryan Lane, passed the House of Representatives on a 44-15 vote! HB 481 incentivizes school districts to adopt instructional materials aligned with the science of reading and will ensure students across New Mexico receive research based reading instruction.
There are only 5 days remaining in this year’s legislative session, and every minute is crucial! Please click the link below to email committee members and ask them to support HB 481.
52% of New Mexico 4th graders score below basic in reading on NAEP. That means more than half of NM students do not have even a partial mastery of the reading skills required for their grade. Our literacy bill is one part of the solution to this crisis and we need your help to get it across the finish line.
